RENT CAP FOR MUNICH TOO

Berlin already has it. Everyone is talking about it in Munich. It’s also subject at the Bavarian Constitutional Court. Is the rent cap coming or not? With its implementation there would be no more astronomical rent increases for the near future. In the spring of last year, the Munich tenants' association launched the referendum "We succeed! Rent Cap in Bavaria! ". "It worked, and we succeeded. Something must finally happen in Bavaria so that the rental market, which has gotten out of control, is steered back into order, ”said tenant association chairman Beatrix Zurek at the time.

The first signatures were collected from the beginning of October 2019. Almost 52,000 signatures were collected. But were they legally effective? The Bavarian Constitutional Court must now decide whether or not a referendum may be allowed. If it were allowed, at least ten percent of all eligible voters in Bavaria would have to enter their names on the signature lists in the town halls responsible for them within two weeks. Only then would the referendum come.

But what does that mean for you as an apartment hunter in Munich or in the Munich area?
